The Sharjah Fish Wealth Authority is dedicated to supporting, enhancing, and safeguarding fish resources.

It is committed to backing fishermen and promoting sustainable marine practices in the Emirate of Sharjah, with the goal of preserving biodiversity and natural resources for future generations.

The Sharjah Fisheries Authority was established in 2022, implementing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, may God protect him, to preserve and develop fishery resources in the emirate, and achieve and enhance food security.

The Authority aims to revive the profession of our ancestors, the profession of fishing, and elevate it by supporting the local market and providing all available forms of support to fishermen and their activities across the emirate.

Research Cooperation between Khorfakkan University and Sharjah Fisheries Authority

In line with the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to preserve and develop the emirate's fish wealth, achieve food security, support the fishing profession, and in alignment with its strategy to expand its cooperation scope, enhance joint collaboration between research centers and government agencies, and exchange information and expertise in the field of fish wealth and biodiversity, support the field of fishing and aquaculture, Khorfakkan University signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sharjah Fisheries Authority. The memorandum was signed on behalf of the university by His Excellency Professor Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al Shamaa, Director of Khorfakkan University, and on behalf of the authority by His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazeen, Chairman of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority. The memorandum's clauses stipulate cooperation in supporting and developing scientific research and specialized studies in the fields of fish wealth, marine biology, and biodiversity, exchanging data and statistics, and enabling the use of facilities between the two parties. Additionally, it includes providing joint practical and specialized training, offering scientific, administrative, and technical consultations to achieve the strategic objectives of both parties, providing suitable job opportunities for graduates of the College of Marine Sciences and Aquatic Biology, and working on implementing joint programs, events, and scientific forums to enhance communication between university students and authority experts. The cooperation also aims to meet community members' needs, raise the efficiency of educational, training, and empowerment services provided through joint contributions to institutional partnership and community service initiatives. The memorandum signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ali Hilal Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of Khorfakkan University, and his accompanying delegation. From the authority, attendees included Mr. Marwan Al Hammadi, Director of the Legal Affairs Office; Mr. Salem Al Kadid, Director of Support Services; Ms. Mariam Al Naqbi, Director of Permits and Health Control; Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Teneiji, Director of Information Technology; Engineer Abdullah Al Madfa, IT Executive; Dr. Abdullah Shaheel, Project Manager; Ms. Aisha Al Hammadi, Aquatic Biology Specialist; Ms. Sheikha Al Ketbi, Quality Officer; and Ms. Amina Al Mazmi, Administrator at the Chairman’s Office.

Hamdan Al-Ketbi: A Model of Success for the “Our Seas, Our Wealth” Initiative

The Sharjah Fisheries Authority continues its efforts to enhance environmental awareness, preserve marine life and fish resources, which are a priority to achieve self-sufficiency and support the fishing profession and its workers. The Authority aims to educate school students and children about the importance of fish resources, discover their talents, develop their skills in this field, and provide the necessary support for their success. To this end, the Authority regularly organizes initiatives, workshops, and events to welcome children and students, creating an engaging and enjoyable learning environment that sparks their interest in exploring marine life. In this context, His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazyain, Chairman of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, emphasized that the Authority's strategic plan focuses on engaging children in its initiatives to instill an appreciation for the fishing profession from a young age. Fishing, a heritage profession of the ancestors, remains an essential economic pillar and plays a significant role in achieving self-sufficiency. The profession holds a special place in the emirate, receiving continued support and recognition. Abu Ghazyain noted that the Authority previously launched the "Our Seas, Our Wealth" initiative, targeting children to encourage them to explore their interests, understand fish resources, and learn about marine life. This initiative includes diverse activities and workshops held throughout the year, in which the Authority participates during various festivals and events organized by the emirate. Children are also welcomed to visit the Marine Museum at the Sharjah Fisheries Authority headquarters, which was established for this purpose, giving visitors and workshop participants a chance to learn about different fish species and fishing equipment. The Chairman also shared that the “Our Seas, Our Wealth” initiative helped discover the talent of Hamdan Khalifa Al-Ketbi, a student who participated in one of the Authority's events held at last year's Dawaahi Festival. Hamdan entered and won the "Most Unusual Fish" contest. Following this, the Authority arranged a visit to his home after coordinating with his family to surprise him and learn more about his hobby, including his care for his fish tanks. The visit aimed to encourage him to pursue his interest by offering appropriate support, as the Authority aspires to help build an aware and informed generation that values fish resources and the marine environment in the UAE. The initiative "Our Seas, Our Wealth" and other programs contribute to enhancing awareness and familiarizing the public with various fish species found in the country's waters. Hamdan's family expressed their gratitude for the Authority's visit and its commitment to engaging with children through meaningful initiatives and activities that fuel their passion and encourage them to show greater care for fish resources, maintaining their skills and dedication in this field

"Fishermen’s Village in Al Hamriyah" – A Fruit of Efforts to Support Fishermen

The Sharjah Fisheries Authority organized an event marking the relocation of workers to the Fishermen’s Village in Al Hamriyah. The event was attended by the Al Hamriyah Fishermen’s Cooperative Society and several heads of departments from the Al Hamriyah region. This event embodies the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, may God protect him, in line with the strategic goals of the Authority. His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazyain, Chairman of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, stated that this relocation represents a significant upgrade in the workers' living environment, providing comprehensive facilities in one location. This setup promotes workers' health, ensures public health standards, and meets safety requirements. The housing is situated away from residential and industrial areas, offering a structured environment close to the sea. The Al Hamriyah Fishermen’s Village includes well-equipped rooms for fishermen's workers, boat parking spaces, laundry rooms, a kitchen, and a dining hall. It accommodates over 200 workers, with additional boat docking spaces, storage facilities, and a mosque. Abu Ghazyain emphasized that this relocation is a humanitarian endeavor within the framework of developing the marine sector. It supports fishermen’s welfare by providing the necessary facilities for a decent living close to their work. He expressed gratitude to the departments that contributed to this project, including the Public Works Department, the Department of Planning and Survey, and the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society.

The Sharjah Fisheries Authority organized a charitable initiative in collaboration with The Big Heart Foundation as part of the "Tarahum for Gaza" campaign. The initiative targeted the Authority’s employees, in cooperation with the Sharjah Charity Association, aligning with the Authority’s strategic plans and vision to strengthen collaboration and coordination with various entities, especially in the field of charitable work. It also aimed to enhance community engagement by promoting a culture of volunteerism among employees and encouraging good deeds, a core value instilled in us through our noble religious teachings and the guidance of our wise leadership. This initiative underscores the importance of achieving social balance, fostering solidarity, and spreading kindness. In this context, His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazien, Chairman of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, emphasized that the initiative included collecting donations from the Authority's employees, in line with the "Tarahum for Gaza" campaign launched by the UAE to assist and aid those affected by the war in Gaza. This initiative instills values of social solidarity and the benefits of volunteer work among employees, encouraging them to lend a helping hand to those in need in crisis-affected countries and to show solidarity with Palestinian children and affected families. It aims to alleviate humanitarian conditions, mitigate suffering for the most vulnerable groups, especially children, by providing basic needs, including health supplies and hygiene products for them and their mothers. Abu Ghazien highlighted that the UAE, and particularly the Emirate of Sharjah, has ingrained charitable work across all sectors of society, reaching out with a helping hand globally to support those in distress. This role, rooted since the country's founding, emphasizes offering support and assistance to those in need and establishing humanitarian work as a core principle. He noted that Sharjah stands as a beacon of humanity in charitable work and serves as a model for assisting impoverished countries and supporting vulnerable communities worldwide through its charitable institutions that continually offer aid and generosity.

Sharjah Fisheries Participates in the International Aquaculture Conference in Greece

The Sharjah Fisheries Authority joined the UAE delegation at the International Aquaculture Conference held in Greece, led by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. This participation aimed to explore the latest developments in the fisheries sector and the best practices in fish farming companies, highlighting the Authority's commitment to enhancing its role and efforts in this field and benefiting from global experiences and advancements. In this context, His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazyain, Chairman of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, praised the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for its significant efforts in supporting the UAE's fishery resources, particularly in fish farming, to bolster the food security system. He commended the Ministry's commitment to involving relevant authorities in international conferences and seminars, allowing them to learn from best practices, experiences, and expertise in this field. The Authority is keen on representing the Emirate at specialized international forums and showcasing its role in supporting the fishing profession by providing an optimal infrastructure to support fishermen and fulfill all their needs. Abu Ghazyain stated that the Authority's participation in this conference reflects its strategic focus on the fishery sector, aiming for self-sufficiency, supporting fishermen, revitalizing the fishing profession, and supplying and marketing fish in the local market. He emphasized the importance of implementing global best practices and successful aquaculture models. The Authority’s delegation met with various industry experts and organizers to gain insights into successful aquaculture experiences.
